Introduction of electronic Patient Report Form (ePRF) to emergency care

ePRF uses ToughBook laptops to replace paper patient report forms. Ambulance personnel attending calls can now download information en route, access patients’ medical histories, enter information in real time and send information electronically to receiving Accident & Emergency Departments.

Benefit to patients and staff?

Staff benefits:

  • Easier and more accurate recording of patient information including di a gnostic data e.g. ECG traces from a defibrillator

  • Incident data can be transmitted to crews via ToughBook
  • Crews have access to information – e.g. British National For m ulary, Toxbase and JRCALC* - as an aide memoire, as well as access to the clinical pathways available to the patient.

Patient benefits:

  • More of their information is available to ambulance crews attending to them at times of emergency (e.g. medical history, allergies, current medication) making for safer treatment and better outcomes
  • Information can be transmitted ahead to receiving hospitals resulting in speedier care upon arrival.
