Entonox Therapy
To expand the Implementation of Entonox Therapy into alternative clinical areas within Acute & Primary Care Trusts to improve patient care.
Summary:
To introduce Entonox Therapy into clinical areas at Kettering General Hospital & peripheral units that previously had not considered this type of analgesia for patient use. To offer to patients as an alternative & less invasive form of analgesia or to use in conjunction with other forms of pain relief during acutely painful injuries/ procedures to aid patient’s comfort & anxiety.
Benefit to patients and staff?
- Entonox is an analgesic gas which is self-administered by the patient for acute & short term pain relief (also reduces anxiety) thus empowering the patient to feel more in control of their care
- It is predictable, reliable with a rapid onset of pain relief, rapid recovery & minimal side effects.
- There
have been no known cases of patients with allergies to Entonox Therapy. - Testimonial from Junior Physiotherapist who was caring for an elderly post operative (abdominal surgery) patient with acute pain & retained chest secretions, ‘Entonox was effective at pain relief, allowing & encouraging the patient to take deep breaths. It positively impacted on the health of the patient allowing us to clear her chest of secretions’.
- Testimonial from Dermatology Staff Nurse, ‘Entonox is very beneficial not only for the patients but for staff as well as it can quicken the time it takes to perform the procedure. It can allow more time to effectively clean wounds & surrounding areas when the patient is less anxious & calmer. On occasions the procedure may not necessarily be painful but if the patient is anxious then the clinician may need to repeatedly start & stop during the procedure’.

This innovation will not be being showcased at the EXPO as it is very new, but more details can be found by contacting Mary McDonald (details are below).
