As well as showcasing ‘game changing’ innovations and what is brightest and best about the NHS and healthcare in the UK, the programme will focus on three key areas. Firstly, the Quality, Innovation, Productivity & Prevention (QIPP) agenda, and the things that are already happening nationally and locally to drive up quality and value in the NHS. Secondly, the commitments set out in the government’s White Paper – ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’, and thirdly, emerging provider and commissioner side reforms.
Delegates will also hear about and discuss the role innovation can play in putting patients and the public first; improving outcomes, autonomy and democratic legitimacy; cutting bureaucracy and increasing efficiency.
The Expo seminars, include:
- QIPP - from back office improvement to mobilization, and patient safety to procurement. Featuring and designed by the likes of Sir John Oldham, Sir Muir Gray, Helen Bevan, Sophia Christie, Peter Rowe, Dr Ian Barnes, Lorraine Foley and Maxine Power.
- iTAPP. Hear how medtech innovations could save more than £1billion a year for the NHS at the procurement workstream session
- The government’s reform agenda; hear from Dame Barbara Hakin, Mike Deegan and Matthew Kershaw about future plans for GP consortia, Foundation Trusts, and commissioning and provider reform,
- GP commissioning, with a range of sessions led by pathfinder GP consortia from Sheffield, Cumbria, Berkshire and Cambridge as well as a range of interactive panel sessions,
- Health & Wellbeing Boards, including a panel session with members of the Greater Manchester Health & Well Being Board and the similar initiatives in Cumbria,
- Meet the Department - Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from and question senior policy officials from the Department of Health, including Director Generals David Behan, Professor David Harper, Clare Chapman and Professor Sir Bruce Keogh.
- The Public Health White Paper, and the development of Public Health England, including an open consultation seminar. Local directors of public health will also be leading seminars looking at the practical implications and opportunities of the White paper.
- The future of Mental Health - Dr Hugh Griffiths will chair a seminar looking at the cross government policy for the future of mental health and it’s implications for QIPP and commissioning.
- Social care - case studies from London and sessions from around the country on the integration of health and social care services.
- Local innovation case studies, see the best examples of innovation from every NHS region, learn how they have achieved major improvements in quality and reductions in costs.

Choosing your seminars
Each seminar will be modular – i.e. they can be booked and attended separately. Most seminars last 45 minutes but some will be longer. Most seminars will contain Q&A sessions or workshop formats which you will be encouraged to take an active role in. Some seminars will be closed sessions and these will be noted on the booking system. The output from closed seminars will be posted on the website after the EXPO.
