South East Coast Quality Observatory (SECQO) Quality Observatories: - Evidencing Quality, Innovation and Productivity through Analytics

Regional NHS Organisation/s

Showcase Content

Quality Observatories were established as a result of the publication of High Quality Care for All by the Department of Health in 2008.  This document recognises the critical role of measurement in driving improvement and innovation.  Key roles of a Quality Observatory include:

  • The provision of benchmarking
  • Supporting the development of measures
  • Idenitfying opportunities (and tools) to support the improvement of frontline services

A number of Quality Observatories (including South East Coast) have developed analytical tools and products which evidence innovative practice, the associated variation between teams and organisations and potential for improvement – both in terms of quality and productivity.

Our interactive stand will showcase selected analytical products which are freely available to NHS staff.  Visitors to the stand will be able to use the tools, speak to the team about the importance of measurement and how to do it and even play games which underline the critical role of measurement in evidencing innovation and supporting spread.

Who are we targeting?

A wide range of NHS staff working in a range of clinical setting. Key target groups include clinicians, commissioners, analysts and individuals leading on the delivery of the Quality and Productivity Challenge (QIPP)

Why NHS staff should visit our showcase?

Because staff will:

  • Gain a greater understanding of how to measure innovation and variation
  • Be clearer about why this is important in driving improvements in quality and productivity
  • Understand what support can be provided by Quality Observatories
  • Be able to test freely available products already developed that support the innovation agenda
  • Learn about examples of innovative practice (evidenced with data) from around the country
