NHS Connecting for Health: Innovation through Information
Showcase Content:
NHS Connecting for Health will demonstrate how it is supporting innovation throughout the NHS in England by delivering world-leading innovations in information services and systems.
NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) supports the NHS in providing better, safer care by delivering computer systems and services which improve the way patient information is stored and accessed.
By delivering services that lead the world in their scale and innovation, NHS CFH has also engaged industry in proactively shaping solutions that are tailored to the current and anticipated future needs the NHS.
A key part of this is in developing the information standards that allow different systems to work together safely, and which support the clinician in their day to day work as well as the collection of information to support world-class commissioning and research.
The stand will highlight a range of innovative activities including:
- Summary Care Record, NHS Choices and HealthSpace which support a patient centric NHS, providing key information on 55 million people wherever they access the NHS, and giving patients access to a range of information and tools to allow them to manage their own health.
- Hardware Innovations showing how NHS CFH has worked with industry to shape solutions that address the specific clinical needs for information at the point of care, such as dependability, security and infection control.
- The NHS Gateway working to give clinicians a single entry point for access to patient records and clinical knowledge, including the NHS Evidence service.
- Clinical Dashboards - a toolset developed to provide clinicians with the relevant and timely information they need to inform daily decisions that improve quality of care.
- Electronic Prescriptions – supporting safer dispensing and working towards a comprehensive medication record across the NHS.
- GP2GP – the world-first service that allows electronic records to follow patients who move between GPs who have different patient record systems.
- Common User Interface – supporting safer and more effective working for clinicians who work across a range of systems by defining standards for user interfaces.

NHS Choices website aims to put people you in control of their own healthcare. The website has been developed to help people make informed choices about their health, from lifestyle decisions about things like smoking, drinking and exercise, through to the practical aspects of finding and using NHS services when they need them. With the integration of the online arm of NHS Direct from October 2008, the site provides a single public ‘front door’ to all NHS online information and services.
NHS Information Centre is England's central, authoritative source of health and social care information. For instance, it operates the ground-breaking NHS Comparators service which provides information on a range of key indicators across primary and secondary care to support more effective commissioning.
